Red Sox All-Star closer placed on COVID-19 injured list

The Boston Red Sox have placed All-Star closer Matt Barnes on the COVID-19 related injured list before opening a four-game series against a division rival. Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement Monday evening. Barnes becomes the fourth Red Sox player to land on the COVID IL in recent days, joining infielder/outfielder Enrique "Kiké" Hernández, infielder Christian Arroyo and left-handed pitcher Martín Pérez.
