Red Sox's hottest prospect 'a superstar in the making' and 'quick as hell'

Red Sox catcher Reese McGuire has logged 731 games and 5,928 innings behind the plate during his professional career. McGuire recently caught 21 innings while on a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Worcester and received an up-close look at 22-year-old center field prospect Ceddanne Rafaela track down some fly balls he had no business catching with such ease. “When I was catching in one of those games, there were multiple balls that were hit to deep center field where off the bat, I was like, 'Oh, this is trouble,'” McGuire said. Rafaela — a Curacao native who Baseball America ranked No. 71 on its 2023 preseason Top 100 and lists as Boston's No. 5 prospect — not only has Gold Glove potential as a center fielder and shortstop.
